Ethereal Whispers
When I started creating Ethereal Whispers, I began as I usually do—with my own approach: I broke the emptiness of the white canvas with a loose paint wash, letting the colour wash out the white surface. Then I took the oil pastel and intuitively doodled across the paper, letting my hand move instinctively and without a plan. From there, I started “reading” the lines. I chose green as the dominant colour, evoking nature, renewal, and growth mostly because I was predetermined to use green. As I layered other colours onto the surface, they emerged in unexpected ways, adding more depth to the painting.
I started then to emphasize the leaf-shaped elements that I could see, and from there my intention was to explore this “rain forest” mood that was growing right on the paper in front of me. I wanted it to be clear and graphic but also delicate as the idea of ethereal is. Hence the name Ethereal Whispers as the whispers are the winds of the ideas the painting evokes.
This artwork can be hung both in horizontal or vertical position. I particularly prefer the vertical position and it is more unique and intriguing. I used acrylic paint, pastels, and colouring pencils on thick watercolour paper (300g). It measures 140x80cm.
