Fugue No. 7

Fugue No. 7 in A Major, Op 87 by Dmitri Shostakovich inspired me throughout this composition. I kept coming back to it as I painted stroke after stroke and drew line after line; the music was so impregnated into the painting that I had to give it the same name. The process of this painting was a mix of gentle and harsh, and that harshness was very liberating to express here, as it kept the painting from looking too frail.

Because of the simplicity of this work, I keep coming back to it and asking myself if I should add something else, but the more I look at it, the more convinced I am that it is a finished work that one can admire from a distance as well as up close. The lines and brushstrokes feel completely immersive with the paper.
